BlueJacket + Cai22 = the attention-grabbing, smooth-flowing collaboration album ‘BLUETWENTY2’! An ear with good taste picked these nine beats as they are unique enough to avoid merging like one long track but not stray too far from the overall thematic tone. The rhythmic structures in these songs, paired with some lyrical gems, had me grow a stank face in approval on several occasions. The abrupt start on the opening track, “Pardon My Language,” and the first words of the project being unapologetically Midwestern was a signature that let me know this would be a great listen. The theme that pops up throughout the album is shown in this track, being past the halfway point of maturing from a teen to an adult but still not quite ready to accept adulthood. You can hear they recognize their developments from past friends and experiences, yet still, hold onto some child-at-heart. One lyric, I think, showcases this, “I’d rather sniff cocaine mommy said no, but daddy said okay.” In the song “Pick First,” BlueJacket references his school notes and desk doodles and follows it up with “when I come to my senses, I hope there is something left” and how he’s lost his halo or innocents. Some other parts of the album I liked were the little details that made each part of the song sound unique, such as in “I’m Done,” when they raised and lowered the vocal’s pitch to add a bit of texture to the adlibs. There is a bit of a Mac Miller influence in the album, and if you listen closely, you can also name a few others. BlueJacket and Cai22 did a great collaboration project! Make sure you stream “BlueTwenty2” and tell them what you thought of their album!
