What’s better than one lyrical rapper with punchlines like a boxer? Two lyrical rappers with KO bars! Cookies & Creme, or LaRon and B Plus, respectively, released their debut EP as a duo, “Dbl Stuft.” They have been making music together for years, releasing songs like “JOL” and “Couch Talk.” Those years of practicing their craft shine on these five tracks, and even though it’s an EP, it feels full enough to be an album. It had been a while since their last track together, so they opened up the project with “Srry 4 Da MIA.” Both of them lay out the changes in their lives that have made it difficult to make music on the frequency that they used to, but LaRon and B Plus make it clear they are back in action and rhyming with purpose! “Abt 2 pop off” is a boom-bap track with “Fenomenal” delivery from both of them. Their success stems from their hustle and dedication, not network TV or other similar media. While spinning this EP, listen for how many celebrity references you can pick up and if you can spot the one ‘True Crimes’ namedrop. In my notes, I had at least seven different names. In this EP, we also got the long-requested “Couch Tlk pt. 2.” If you listen closely to this track, you can hear the faint “ooo” and “aaa” vocals baked into the beat. Creme and I talked about this project before it dropped, and he told me he placed those during post-production of the beat as the instrumental was not made in their studio. That’s a little detail that goes unnoticed among all the other pieces put into the music that most ‘Keyboard Warriors’ would miss while dissing this album simply for being local HipHop. “Lil diffrnt” is a bouncy beat with a turnt hook, and the lyrics click so well with the instrumental. It takes serious love for HipHop to find the time to make music while trying to raise a family. That is one reason C&C’s differ from the rest: they are artists and family men. Their lyrical ability only comes from years of hard work, so why stop now? “Thts it 4 Da juice” is their sign-off song for the EP. It’s another boom-bap track with several vocal editing effects that take it to the next skill level. While they are a team, they compete equally to keep pushing one another to improve their raps. This EP has a ton of content: from lyrism, messaging, mixing techniques, flow, dedication, effort, and crisp bars with dope beats served like milk on the side! Check out “Dbl Stuft” on all platforms now and message Cookies & Creme on social media to let them know what your favorite tracks are off the album.
