LocallyCopped: “Trip Through Wisco” EP

LocallyCopped crafted his “Trip Through Wisco” EP as diverse as the state he’s traveling through. From the beat selection, wordplay, and flows, these four tracks explore various topics, ideas, and emotions as if they were the four corners of a map. We pick up the EP with “Mando.” While Wisconsin has its own DJ Mando, the title references the Mandalorian from Star Wars, LC’s all-time favorite series. The instrumental is captivating and gives an underground feel to the track, setting up the rest of the EP well. His wordplay and cadence are sharp, with a Denzel Curry influence that is hard to miss. He’s here to make a ruckus in the underground scene; don’t build your view on assumptions about him because he will shatter that perception through his lyrics. Traveling to the next track, “Gypsy,” the beat gives me flashes of “Day Before” by Young Thug with the submarine-life language at the track’s intro with its more mellow melody but energy brought through the lyrical content and delivery. The only two features on the EP, Ace and KCS Jay, flow naturally over this instrumental style. The second to last track, “Mutuals,” sounds straight out of the early 2010s. Here, LC talks about things he has seen during his journey in the modern underground music scene, from the fake blow-ups with spiked streams (a clear giveaway of botting) to warnings of a fake-it-til-you-make-it mindset. He calls them out perfectly with, “if you wanna post the numbers, at least post how much they costing.” This track is where he shares a lot of his life’s wisdom. The final entry, “Trip Through Wisco,” gives the vibe for closing out the EP right. The vocal mixing on this track adds little effects that provide texture to the listeners’ experience. By staying true to himself, he knows his fans will play their role. He will roam where he pleases, looking to start a new life and gain new perspectives. The changes to the vocal mix and tempo of the chorus at the end symbolize this mindset. The same hook [man] at a different pace [life/setting] makes the song familiar yet fresh. LC has much to say on this short four-track EP, and I recommend everyone stream “Trip Through Wisco.” Remember to message LocallyCopped on social media to let him know your thoughts on his project!
