Some say home is where the heart is, which means your heart is your home. SpellRed’s “Heartbreak Real-Estate – EP” warns all of us to be careful with who we let reside there. We start with “Sold Out,” which reminds us that while your significant other can hurt your heart, even your friends can inflict the same amount of damage. You can put a roof over their head, but they are free to walk away. We get a taste of SpellRed’s melodic work on “Owner” as it captures his hurt from his girl not reciprocating the claim to each other. He recognizes that we don’t own one another, and both parties need to be dedicated. As the project progresses, it speeds up on the track “Broken Lease.” The change of pace reflects his outlook on love/dating changing. She left his heart broken and vacant quickly and unexpectedly, so now he’s moving on and keeping future encounters quick and shallow. He used to be selfless to those he cared about, but now he feels the need to prioritize himself and be selfish. To close the EP, “Property Claim” reveals that when you have claimed loyalty to someone and they won’t do the same, you have to move on from them. While he’s not happy about the events that happened, he was able to grow in life with this experience. Do you have a similar experience in life?
